About Shinshu Buddhism

Spiritual Message

Jodo Shinshu or Shin Buddhism teaches that we are always embraced by the wisdom and compassion of Amida Buddha. Rather than trying to become perfect through our own efforts, we learn to trust that compassion and respond with gratitude. Saying the Nembutsu—Namo Amida Butsu—is a simple expression of thankfulness for being accepted just as we are.

Guided by the teachings of Shinran Shonin, we listen to the Dharma, reflect honestly on our lives, and become aware of how much we receive from others. In Jodo Shinshu, we do not rely on superstition or prayers asking for special favors. Instead, we live each day with humility, compassion, and appreciation.

Our temple community is made up of people who come together to hear the Buddha’s teachings, say the Nembutsu, and support one another on life’s journey. We seek to share Amida Buddha’s wisdom and compassion so that everyone may find peace, meaning, and spiritual fulfillment.

About Jodo Shinshu

Our Teaching

Attaining the “entrusting heart”—awakening to the compassion of Amida Buddha through the working of the Primal Vow—we shall walk the path of life reciting Amida’s Name (Nembutsu). At the end of life, we will be born in the Pure Land and attain Buddhahood, returning at once to this delusional world to guide people to awakening.

Our Way of Life

Guided by the teaching of Shinran Shonin, we shall listen to the compassionate calling of Amida Buddha and recite the Nembutsu. While always reflecting on ourselves, amidst our feelings of regret and joy, we shall live with gratitude without depending on petitionary prayer and superstition.

Our Purpose

We are a community of people joined together revering the teaching of Shinran Shonin and saying the Nembutsu. We seek to share with others the wisdom and compassion of Amida Buddha. By doing so, we shall work toward the realization of a society in which everyone is able to live a life of spiritual fulfilment.
